Equality & Rights Advocates (EARA)

Our EARA's will:

  • make sure everyone is treated fairly and kindly.
  • listen to children's ideas and opinions
  • stand up to unkindness and unfair treatment
  • help make sure every child's rights are respected
  • celebrate and value our differences
  • help children grow in confidence and learn important life skills
  • support children who may need extra help
  • encourage everyone to join in, take part and do their best.

Our Equality, Advocacy, Rights and Awareness (EARA) group helps ensure that every child feels valued, respected and included within our school community. The group explores a range of issues linked to the protected characteristics identified in the Equality Act 2010, helping pupils develop an understanding of diversity, challenge prejudice and discrimination, and promote positive attitudes towards difference.

The EARA group plays an important role in giving pupils a voice. Members discuss issues that matter to them and identify ways to raise awareness, promote inclusion and support those who may be under-represented or vulnerable. They act as advocates for fairness and help ensure that all children feel heard and respected.

The work of the group is underpinned by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), which promotes the rights and wellbeing of every child. In particular, the group embraces the principle that children should have opportunities to express their views and influence decisions that affect them. Through EARA, pupils are empowered to make a positive difference within our school and wider community while developing confidence, empathy and leadership skills.
