VACANCIES FOR SCHOOL GOVERNORS

The Governing Body of St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School has vacancies for a staff governor and three foundation governors. Expressions of interest in joining the team are now being sought. The term of office is for 4 years from date of appointment.

The governors work as a team, in close co-operation with the headteacher and staff. The core responsibilities of the governing body are:

  • Ensure clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction
  • Hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
  • Oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent

In addition to this, foundation governors are appointed specifically to ensure:

  • That the religious character of the school is preserved
  • That the school is conducted in accordance with its trust deed
  • That the religious education curriculum is in accordance with the Bishop’s policy for this Diocese

The school would benefit from people who have experience of:

  • strategic leadership and priorities
  • recruitment and appraisals
  • analysis of data
  • forging links with the wider community
  • communities with diverse cultural backgrounds

Anyone interested in applying should not be put off by lack of experience in these areas. A comprehensive suite of training is available for those wishing to expand their skills.

If you would like an application form and to know more about the roles, please contact Matt Zarb Piscopo, the Chair of Governors, by email governor.zarbpiscopo@st-john-andover.hants.sch.uk
