St John The Baptist Catholic Primary School "Together, through our words and actions, our work and play,We point towards Christ, each and every day"

The Common Good

"God wants us to help people who are poor, who don’t have enough food, a safe place to live, or a community."

The common good means that the fruits of the earth belong to everyone. No one should be excluded from the gifts of creation. The principle of the Common Good is developed through our charity work as well as the support children are encouraged to provide their peers and younger members of our community.

However, this principle is also experienced through their studies.  Whether it is the Suffragettes, Rosa Parks, class differences on the Titanic or the apartheid through History or levels of extinction, water pollution, the distribution of wealth through Geography or Science the principle of working together to ensure all have what they need is central.

What does this look like at SJB?

  • We support CAFOD by learning about their work, inviting guest speakers to school and fundraising
  • We organise charity events in response to local, national and international need
  • We donate to the Andover Foodbank
  • We pray for our community at every Mass
  • The School council and House Captains are elected by the children to their roles
