Handwriting

Handwriting at SJB

Handwriting is a physical activity that involves movement and recognition skills that need to be learned. It is part of one's self-esteem and underpins the majority of the curriculum.

Here at SJB, handwriting forms part of our core day and has four key threads:

  • Making the body stronger
  • Holding the pencil (for speed, comfort, and legibility)
  • Learning the letters
  • Flow and fluency

We follow the Kinetic Letters programme in all year groups.

Using the scheme's monkeys and unique stories and families to teach handwriting helps to make handwriting fun and memorable for all!

Our Handwriting and Presentation Policy outlines our approach in greater detail.
